Welcome to Pack
74
The
Lincolnwood Cub Scout Pack officially began October 1,
1954 as Pack 90. It was
charted by the American Legion Post #1226 in Lincolnwood
and meetings were held the first Thursday of every month
at 7:30 pm at the grade school in Lincolnwood. The
Pack’s first Cubmaster was Kelly Laymon and the Pack’s
first Committee Chairman was Chester M. Wiig. Records
indicate there were about 55 Cubs Scouts at that time.
Around 1965, the Pack changed
from Pack 90 to Pack 74, which it remains to this day.
Over the years Lincolnwood’s Parent Teacher’s
Association and the Parks & Recreation Department acted
as the Pack’s sponsors. The Pack met at various
locations including the Legion Hall for a brief time in
the early 1960s. Through most of the Pack’s history the
meetings have been at Rutledge Hall where there are
today and the Pack’s sponsor has been American Legion
Post #1226 which is our
current sponsor.
Membership in recent years has
been steady at around 40 scouts. Pack 74 is very active
from the beginning of each school year until the end of
the school year. During the summer months the Pack takes
a bit of a hiatus from its pack meetings, although it is
still active with various events and activities
including the Memorial Day Parade participation, annual
car wash, food drive, Resident Camp at Camp Lakota,
Webelos camp at Camp Napowan, and its summer swim party
at Lincolnwood’s pool at the Proesel Park Family Aquatic
Center.
